Research and evaluation in psychotherapy and counselling

Abstract

This article has three aims.  The first is to explain why research into psychotherapy and counselling is an imperative of contemporary practice and a responsibility for service providers and professional associations, and not just for universities.  The second is to describe how service providers and professional associations can effectively collaborate with universities so as to best achieve their respective goals.  The third is to identify and discuss some core research processes that service providers and professional associations will need to follow whether undertaking research alone or in collaboration with universities.
