Reviewer guidelines

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

PACJA aims to encourage clear, scholarly writing and to offer a supportive experience for authors while ensuring rigorous peer review. On request, authors may sometimes be provided with a mentor prior to submission and/or peer review.

Reviewers are provided with a reporting template to ensure consistency and clarity in the review process. They will then be asked to assess a submitted article against the following criteria and to provide feedback on the work needed for it to be ready for publication, especially with regard to:

  • Making a significant contribution to the evidence base and knowledge of counselling and psychotherapy;
  • Demonstrating original and scholarly research using appropriate methodology or a rigorously conducted literature review;
  • Having a coherent structure and argument;
  • Being written in a clear, formal style suitable for publication;
  • Using anti oppressive language;
  • Complying with current APA (6th edition) referencing conventions.
